History

Our story began in 2002 when God spoke to a couple from the Urbana Campus about the possibility of a Vineyard Church in Danville. They began to drive to the city and pray, asking God what He wanted them to help him do in Danville. As an answer to their prayer, they connected two couples who began hosting the first small groups.

In 2004, the first Alpha class in Danville was started, launching more small groups hosted by folks attending the Urbana Campus.  In 2007, God spoke to Dennis Starkey to gather these people into a larger group that would study the Doing Church curriculum and explore the next phase of developing a multi-site campus.  This pioneer group of about fifty people met first in a local funeral home.  As they met together, they discovered a common desire to have a "community of hope" in Danville that would impact their own families, friends and neighbors with the works of Jesus.

The Danville Campus of The Vineyard Church held its first service in September 2008. Then, in January 2009, Danville native Jay Sorrell was commissioned as Campus Pastor.  Today this initial group is a growing congregation who are actively reaching out to their community with a message of Jesus’ hope and love.
